Michigan Policy Summit 2008

Thank you.

Michigan Policy Summit 2008

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Michigan Policy Summit, May 10 at the Lansing Center and a special thank you to all the donors and the volunteers that gave of themselves to make this event a resounding success. Over 700 progressives came together to work on a progressive policy agenda around health care, education, and the environment.

In the morning, we were honored and pleased to hear from author, journalist and radio commentator Amy Goodman talk about what it means to be a progressive and the need to take back our media. Over lunch, popular political activist and author Jim Hightower gave remarks speaking to our core issues and challenged us to ?ut the progress back in progressive. For those that were unable to make it out to the event, you are in good hands because we have video of our keynote speakers here.

Between our dynamic keynote speakers, we participated in issue workshops focusing on health care, education, and the environment. We also hosted skills workshops and regional breakouts, all of which kept everyone engaged and emboldened with a mandate for being the change we want to see in Michigan. Notes from the workshops will be forthcoming in the notes section of this website.

Unlike other conferences, the Michigan Policy Summit is committed to inspiring and impacting real policy change at the local and state level and I encourage you to get plugged in to our regional tables we have set up across the state to play an integral role in rebuilding Michigan. Moreover, we are already gearing up for the 2009 and you can help us make the third summit bigger and better by donating to our efforts here.

I was too busy running around to take pictures but if any of you have pictures or video footage from the summit, please email them to bqwhite@gmail.com so we can help illustrate the history we made May 10.

I hope you were encouraged to continue your work and stay committed to playing an important role in shaping and advancing progressive public policy. I count it an honor to be a part of Michigan? progressive movement and thank you again for participating in the Michigan Policy Summit.

Sincerely,
Brandon White
